Most cities have something they are known for or a specialty of some kind, whether it’s shopping, architecture, sunny beaches or whatever it might be. Barcelona on the other hand, has it all. You can find great architecture, shopping, sun and great culinary experiences! We believe that tapas are a good alternative to most meals, even if it’s not according to the ‘food rules’. In addition Paella in numerous variations, can be washed down with excellent wine. If you go in the summer you have to visit the city beach at Barceloneta, a long, fine sandy beach just a few minutes walk from the city center. If there are children in the travel party (or even adults for that matter) the aquarium on the harbor Port Vell is a great place to visit. Where can you go in a transparent tunnel under sharks, rays and lots of other swimming creatures. The best areas for architecture lovers are Barri Gotic and El Born, the older parts of the city.
The city also has a great Metro system that is useful if you should take a trip to the magnificent La Sagrada Familia, which we absolutely recommend. If you want to enjoy life in the sun, you can buy some melon, Serrano ham and a good wine bring a picnic basket to Park Guell. A stunning park with panoramic views of the city. The park is, like much else in the city, designed by the great artist Gaudi. Scattered around the city, one can find different buildings, museums and art made by or influenced by Gaudi.
If you’re a football fan, or even if you aren’t, Camp Nou might be worth a visit. The stadium is home of FC Barcelona and is the largest stadium in Europe. After dark the Magic Fountain, ‘Font Magica’, is a spectacular sight. Tourists flock to see the fountain playing music and dancing in a rainbow of colors. Another sight best seen when dark out, is Torre Agbar. Really just an office building, but with really interesting architectural design, the entire building glows in different colors.
This magnificent city requires no compromise among your travelling party, here you can find something for everyone. This is one of the most ‘complete’ travel destinations Europe has to offer!
